Mindful eating for darker days

Updated: Jan 10

After the festive indulgence of Christmas and New Year, many people feel drawn to the strict diets and rigid regimes that January has to offer. But at Real Patisserie we champion the gentler, more fulfilling approach of mindful eating!

Instead of focusing on what you shouldn't eat, mindful eating means embracing food with intention and clarity – savouring every mouthful and ruminating on flavour and texture, while fuelling our bodies with seasonal, wholesome and nutritious foods.

That’s why, year-round, we create bread and baked goods that celebrate superior ingredients and careful craftmanship together, of course, with treats to lift the spirits and mark life’s special moments.

Healthier habits

Mindful eating encourages healthier, long-term habits. Unlike the short-term food fads and crash diets were used to mindful eating gives us the ability to make heathier choices more often. It helps us to tune into our body’s needs, guiding us to choose foods that are good for both our bodies and mind. Its about being conscious of both what we eat and how we eat it.

January, and its neighbour February, can be two of the cruellest months of the year. Shorter, colder, dreary days, with fewer parties and celebrations to see us through the longer nights. Choosing foods that are high in dietary fibre and have a low glycaemic index will provide slow-release energy to keep us warm, comforted and satisfied. Foods such as our slowly fermented sourdough bread; our dense rich Nordic bread, packed with seeds and herbs; and our soft, delicious wholegrain spelt loaf sweetened with a touch of honey and mixed with seeds.

Winning Choices

In our shops you will find delicious coffee to brighten the darkest of mornings, hot chocolate and fragrant warming chai to partner with a pastry. For a balanced lunch we have nourishing soups partnered with hearty sustaining bread and lovingly filled seasonal quiches, frittatas and baguettes, plus, of course, our full range of artisan loaves.

For those committed to – or experimenting with – Veganuary and plant-based foods, we have expanded and enhanced both our savoury and sweet offerings. We’ve painstakingly reviewed and refined the recipes to make sure that they are every bit as flavoursome and delicious as their non-vegan alternatives so that the choice to eat only plants is not a sacrifice in terms of taste or enjoyment. Whether it’s a vegan almond croissant or a plant-based quiche, you won’t feel like you are missing out!

And, because no eating plan should ever forbid treats, we’ve always got a little something to lift your spirits – from wholesome spelt digestives and mini almond bites to seasonal blackberry tarts.

Giving back

As a thank you to you, our loyal customers, we have also introduced a new ‘gold card’ loyalty scheme in all our shops this month. Be sure to ask for a card and more information when you next pop in.

This winter, join us in celebrating the simple joys of seasonal, wholesome and nutritious food. Mindful eating isn't about deprivation – its about enjoying every bite while caring for our body and soul. We look forward to serving you soon!

Wishing you a fulfilling January!
